KCH Helipad

The Helipad was constructed on top of the 10th floor of the Ruskin Wing Building and included an Amenity block (shower, WC, office and control room functions) and a new external lift core housing 2 fire-fighting lifts.

The Helipad and lift cores allow patients to be transferred directly into the operating theatres, removing the requirement for Ambulance transfer from Ruskin Park (previous helicopter landing site), shortening the time taken to treat critically ill patients and saving lives.

The Helipad project underwent many changes during the design stage as adjacent proposals were developed and also as a result of a changing programme and construction of the Critical Care Centre.

The lift core to the North and bracing to the south provide additional stiffness to the Ruskin building in order to take the additional Helipad weight and wind load.
